We have been made aware that there are exchange students who would like to come to Kansas. We have been contacted by an AFS Hosting Coordinator to see if any Claflin families would like to host an exchange student.
Why host an exchange student?
*Introduce a new culture and different customs to your world perspective.
*Enrich family life by sharing it with a young person from another
country and culture.
*See the US and our own culture through new eyes.
*Develop a lifelong connection with your hosted participant and his
or her family.
*Help an outstanding young person grow into a more confident and
knowledgeable adult.
What are the expectations for host families?
*Provide meals for your student.
*Provide them with their own bed.
*Include them in your family activities.
*Provide them the same comfort and support you would for your own child.
Students
*They come with their own health insurance.
*Their natural families provide them with their own spending money.
*They attend the high school of the district you are in.
*AFS participants have some level of English proficiency. They are between
the age of 15 and 18 years of age.
*Average to above average grades.
*Year program participants stay 11 months; Participants are required to attend
school while here.
