Parents of children who will
be in kindergarten next fall of 2009 are asked to notify the
Claflin Elementary School as soon as possible. Principal Jane Oeser
is requesting notification by calling 620-587-3896. If your child
is already attending the four-year-old preschool you do not need to
contact the school. Claflin Elementary Secretary Tracey Weber will
request several items of information including the child’s name and
birth date. According to state law, a child must be 5 years old by
August 31, 2009, to be eligible for kindergarten for the 2009-2010
school year.
The visitation will be Friday morning, May 1. Any
child who is not currently enrolled in our four-year-old preschool
program will have his/her vision, hearing, and speech checked this
morning. As Ms. Ciochon, the kindergarten teacher, works with
your child that morning she will be checking for school readiness
with the activities she has the children do. If she has any
questions about your child’s readiness she will contact you after
the visitation.
Parents are also reminded that enrollment in Kansas
schools for the first time requires a birth certificate and the
Kansas Certificate of Immunization Card. Securing a birth
certificate may take as long as six weeks; therefore, early
application is encouraged. Application forms are available at the
Claflin Elementary School Office. You may also secure a birth
certificate application online by visiting the following
