Welcome To Claflin USD #354

Claflin USD #354 Schools is making final preparations for the upcoming school year. Enrollment is scheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2009 with the first day of school being Wednesday, August 19, 2009. Our custodial staff has been busy again this summer preparing the buildings for the new school term. As always the buildings look great!
Anyone new to our district will be interested in knowing we do offer a four-year-old preschool program and all-day kindergarten. Both of these programs are designed to help children build that needed foundation to be successful in school. For details regarding eligibility and costs, contact the elementary school office at 620-587-3896.
Claflin Schools take pride in their many accomplishments both inside and outside of the classroom. Achieving Adequate Yearly Progress is an ongoing goal from year to year and we have been successful in achieving that goal at both the elementary and junior/senior high school buildings. Students participating in extracurricular activities achieved to high standards during the 2009-10 school year. Band, vocal, forensics, yearbook, land judging, tennis, track, and golf had students participating at the state level. The leadership of the teachers/coaches, our students’ inner drive to succeed, as well as family support at home, has created an environment of success for our students.
Technology to enhance student learning, as well as to provide a link of communication to home, has been an on-going goal for our Board of Education. Currently at the elementary level we have forty-four laptops available to the 3rd-6th grade classes. In the primary classrooms you will find six to eight computers in each of the classrooms with access to the Internet. Various software programs to enhance reading and math skills are utilized that are both web-based and server-based. At the junior/senior high we have two portable laptop carts with twenty-four laptops in each. In addition twenty computers can be accessed by students in the media center, as well as in the computer lab, which houses another twenty computers. Projectors are mounted in ninety percent of the classrooms, which allows the teacher to project any image from his/her computer. Interactive Whiteboards can be found in two classrooms at the elementary level and three at the junior/senior high level.
Claflin Schools look forward to a new and exciting year. We want to make parents and students feel welcome as they return to their respective buildings. Parents will be provided the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers at the parent orientations scheduled for 7:00 PM on Monday, August 24, for the Claflin Junior/Senior High School, and Thursday, August 27, for the Claflin Elementary School. Feel free anytime, to stop by the buildings or district office, if you have questions that you would like answered.
