Governor's Achievement Award
Claflin Jr/Sr High School 2008-2009 Recipient
At the November USD 354 Claflin Board of Education meeting held on November 2, 2009, Superintendent Jane Oeser announced that Claflin Jr/Sr High School had received notification from the Kansas State Department of Education that they had been awarded the Governor's Achievement Award for 2008-2009. Mrs. Oeser presented a plaque to Claflin Jr/Sr High School Principal Toby Holmes at the board meeting.
The third annual Governor's Achievement Awards, honoring top performing schools in the state were recently announced. Specifications for the program are a follows:
* The school must have achieved the Standard of Excellence in both reading and mathematics for 2009
* The school must have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in both reading and mathematics and one additional measure in 2009. (For elementary schools and middle/junior high schools--attendance; for high schools--graduation rate)
* The school must have been among schools in the top 5% in both reading and mathematics on the 2009 state assessments at its respective level (elementary school, middle/junior high school, high school)
Claflin Jr/Sr high School was one of seventeen high schools that qualified for this prestigious award in the State of Kansas!
During an all school assembly held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, Claflin Jr/Sr High School Principal Toby Holmes presented the award to the students and staff. Principal Holmes commended the students and staff of Claflin Jr/Sr High School and expressed to them that they should be VERY proud of this award and their accomplishments! CONGRATULATIONS!!
